The Lumi Opus Story

We are an art and design studio made up of a husband/wife team who have a passion for expression. Our love for experimenting, and pushing the boundaries to create something new, and something special makes us eager to start each day. Lumi Opus is committed to challenging the status quo, and thinking differently. All products are created with eco friendly inks, and proudly made locally in Melbourne. At this time our Studio Gallery is open to the public by appointment.

Michele is an American-born designer who has led an “eclectic design life” earning her BFA in graphic design with a love for product creation, colour, texture, and pure experiment. She christened her career as a Nike design intern which eventually led to a role as a Colour Director for the footwear division. After Nike, Michele went on to design for other fortune 500 international companies. In 2003 she and her husband Guy started Cielo Blu Studios, a boutique design company, that grew into a successful 600 store wholesale business that started in New York City. Cielo Blu Studios was among a handful of artists in the USA who hand screen-printed paper commercially driving the early days of “made by hand” products. The Luminatos’ forged a new generation of custom, ready-made stationery and paper products, kids apparel, eco-friendly paper home products.

Michele and Guy founded Lumi Opus in Australia with the intent of pushing the boundaries of original art products and special projects. Michele is also a fine artist with a current collection of original paintings available in Australia. Learn more about Michele’s original paintings by going to our “Original Art” page.

Michele has a passion for helping other creative entrepreneurs, and mini makers and launched workshops called “Makers”. To learn more about the maker workshops, go to our Studio > Workshops tabs. To connect with Michele and her other passions read her personal blog, www.MicheleLuminato.com

Guy, a native to Melbourne Australia, is the director of operations and printing, led by his passion for innovating the print process. His craftsmanship and attention to detail led to the refined hand screen printed process Cielo Blu Studios began to employ in 2003. He has printed tens of thousands hand pulled prints specializing in small type printed so clear it could pass for offset printing. He is recognized as a master artisan of his craft with the highest standards. His work has sold to over 600 stockists in America and Japan. He is gracious and humble about his skills, and continues to push what is possible by combining hand made with digital to create the unique products for Lumi Opus. He is always behind the scenes impacting the work of Lumi Opus products and a lead instructor for Lumi Opus Maker Workshops.
